About us

Championing the quiet power of mediation.

Asia Pacific Mediation Centre exists to make amicable dispute resolution the first instinct — not the last resort — across the Asia Pacific.

Asia is in the middle of a mediation renaissance. The Singapore Convention has given mediated settlements cross-border enforceability. Hong Kong now hosts IOMed, the first intergovernmental organization devoted to mediation. China, India and Malaysia have passed landmark mediation legislation, and institutions from Kyoto to Kuala Lumpur are training thousands of new mediators.

Yet awareness still lags behind the law. Too many public agencies and businesses reach for litigation or arbitration by default — spending years and fortunes on disputes that a structured conversation could resolve in weeks.

Asia Pacific Mediation Centre works to close that gap. We raise awareness of mediation's value, promote it as the first response to disputes and challenges across the region, share practical resources for public and private sector parties, and celebrate the wins — because every settlement reached amicably is proof that a better way exists.

What we believe

Disputes are inevitable; escalation is a choice. Relationships — between companies, communities, and countries — are assets worth protecting. And the Asia Pacific, with its deep traditions of consensus and conciliation, can lead the world in modern amicable dispute resolution.

Our flagship initiative

Mediate.Asia is our continuously updated hub for mediation news, research and institutions across Asia — created by Asia Pacific Mediation Centre to give the region's mediation community a single home for what's happening, what's being published, and who's doing the work.

Leadership

Our founder

HT

Dato' Hughie Tan

Founder, Asia Pacific Mediation Centre
“Every dispute resolved around a table instead of a courtroom leaves a relationship intact — and Asia's future will be built on relationships.”

Dato' Hughie Tan, of Malaysia, founded the Asia Pacific Mediation Centre to champion a simple conviction: that the disputes shaping Asia's future — commercial, civic and cross-border — are better resolved through dialogue than through litigation.

Under his leadership, APMC established Mediate.Asia, the region's continuously updated hub for mediation news, research and institutions, and works to put practical mediation resources in the hands of both public agencies and private enterprises across the Asia Pacific.
